In the first Little Girls Division game of 2014, Farm Bureau defeated Southern Landscape Supply, 20-13.
It was the “Ellas” show for Farm Bureau as Ella VanVrinken and Ella Hendrixson each had a monster day, accounting for all but two points of FB’s scoring in the contest.
It would be Southern Landscape Supply that would strike first in the game, however, as Abby Cross banked one in with 5:30 left in the first period.
Farm Bureau would answer, though. Going on a 12-1 run to end the half, FB took total control of the game.
VanVrinken got FB started when she scored 3:22 left in the first. Seconds later, Farm Bureau would get a steal and Cadee Griffith would bank one in to give Farm Bureau their first lead in the contest. VanVrinken would strike twice more before the end of the period to put Farm Bureau up 8-3 at the sound of the game’s first horn.
The second period belonged to Ella Hendrixson. Tess Barton would bank in a free throw, but Hendrixson would sore four points in the period, adding to the Farm Bureau lead, and it looked like Farm Bureau might run away with it, leading 12-3 going into the break.
Someone forgot to tell SLS however. Opening up the second half with a 8-2 run, SLS looked like they would make a game of the contest.
Abby Cross started the run, scoring seconds into the period. VanVrinken would answer with a bucket of her own but SLS would close out the period behind buckets by Tess Barton, Peyton Norris and Maleah Ruch, and suddenly the Farm Bureau lead was narrowed to just three, 14-11.
Farm Bureau would draw the line there.
Ella Hendrixson quickly scored two more times and Ella VanVrinken capped off her game with 3:58 left. Tess Barton would add a bucket seconds later, but no one else could break onto the scoreboard in the period, giving Farm Bureau the win going away, 20-13.
In the game, Ella VanVrinken led all scores with 10. Ella Hendrixson followed closely behind with 8 and Cadee Griffith added 2.
For SLS, Tess Barton led the way with 5 points while three girls, Abby Cross had 4 and Peyton Norris and Maleah Ruch each added 2.
