For the first time this season, the Jr. Tigers found themselves on the wrong end of the scoreboard, falling to the Smith County Owls during homecoming Saturday.  The DC offense was harassed all game long as the Tigers could manage only 2 first downs on 92 total yards.  The Smith County offense was able to run up and down the field on DeKalb, putting up 13 first downs on 392 total yards.

DeKalb looked like it would be business as usual, as Kolter Kilgore found Conner Close on a 50 yard bomb on the second play from scrimmage, setting up what would prove to be the Tigers’ only score of the contest when Kilgore again found Close, this time in the end zone, for a touchdown.  Silas Cross added the point after and with less than 3 minutes gone, the Tigers led 7-0.

Unfortunately, DeKalb could manage no more the rest of the game and watched as Smith County rattled off 25 unanswered points to win the game going away, 25-7.

Statistically, Kolter Kilgore was 2 of 7 passing, with 56 yards and a touchdown with Conner Close being his sole target in the contest.  Silas Cross led the team rushing with 33 yards, while Mason Winters added 6.

Defensively, Tyler Estes had an interception and 3 tackles in the game, with Silas Cross leading the team in tackles with 8.  Ryan Thompson and Shady Newport each had 5 tackles and Marquez Chalfant had 3.  Konner Young had two tackles and 5 Tigers, Andrew Vickers, Conner Close, Ty Panker, Joel Rader and Diego Coronado, each had 1.

With the loss, the Tigers finish second in the regular season and will begin their postseason run against Fentress County this Saturday at 3p.m. at Smith County High School.
