The Junior team continued its winning ways Sunday as the Tigers defeated the Monterey Wildcats, 34-7 in Baxter.

Silas Cross scored a touchdown for DeKalb Sunday.
Silas Cross ruled the day offensively for DeKalb, rushing for 56 of the Tigers’ 187 total yards of offense and 1 of the Black and Gold’s 6 touchdowns in the contest.
The stiff DeKalb defense held the Wildcats to negative yardage in the first half before substituting early in the second half, allowing many of the underclassmen invaluable playing time. Conner Close and Marquez Chalfant electrified the crowd, each intercepting Monterey quarterback Colton Walker, and running in for touchdowns.
DeKalb’s first score came on an 18 yard Silas Cross rumble early in the first quarter. Konner Young would convert the attempt giving the Tigers a 7-0 lead.

DeKalb’s next possession to give DeKalb a 13-0 advantage.
Conner Close would get his interception on the ensuing drive, expanding DeKalb’s lead. This time, Mason Winter would convert DeKalb’s point after, giving DeKalb a 20-0 lead going into the half.
Marquez Chalfant would rumble in for DeKalb’s next score, midway through the thirdquarter, giving DeKalb a 26-0 lead.
Chalfant would add another score for DeKalb on Monterey’s next possession, intercepting Walker and sprinting downfield for a touchdown, increasing DeKalb’s lead to 32-0.
Monterey would finally break onto the score board late in the fourth, when Mason Bowman would run in from 18 yards out to give the Wildcats their only score of the day.
Defensively for DeKalb, 13 Tigers had tackles throughout the game, with Close and Chalfant each getting an interception. Andrew Vickers and Ty Panker each had 4 tackles and Issac Newport and Ryan Thompson each had 3. Tyler Estes, Silas Cross, Joel Rader and Stetson Agee each had 2 tackles on the day and Alex Lemons, Marquez Chalfant, Trey Crabtree, Briz Trapp and Conner Close each contributed with one.
DeKalb will come home this week to take on the Fentress County Bulldogs.
