Tiger, Ryan Thompson had a big day for DeKalb Saturday, gaining 33 yards and rushing for a touchdown in the contest.
ground, one would probably think DeKalb would be on the short end of the scoreboard.
One would be wrong in that assumption.
Saturday the Peewee Tigers defeated the Owls, 19-12 in a game where DeKalb played a case of bend but don’t break defense and big play offense. Three Tigers rushed for touchdowns in the contest, while quarterback Briz Trapp was perfect in the contest, going 2 of 2 for 29 yards.
The Tiger defense held Smith County totally in check until late in the game, causing two fumbles and forcing the Owls to turn the ball over on downs twice in the contest.

Smith County got the ball first in the contest and broke off a 10 play drive to open the contest. After converting a crucial fourth down conversion, Smith County looked to be in great shape on the DeKalb 14 yard line. However, Smith County would fumble the ball into and out of the endzone for a touchback.
DeKalb would be forced to punt on its first time with the ball, but would see the Owls charge back down the field on their following possession. Smith County would go on a 10 play drive all the way to the DeKalb 4 yard line, but would get no further as the Black and Gold defense stiffened, stopping the Owls on four times in the shadow of their own goal line, to turn the ball over on downs.

Conner Close had a huge 97 yards rushing day for the Tigers Saturday. He also rushed for a touchdown.
Three plays later, Smith County would be in their goal line.
After two modest gains on first and second down, Conner Close took the Trapp 3rd down handoff 83 yards downfield, electrifying the crowd and giving DeKalb the lead. The PAT would fail but DeKalb had struck first to take a 6-0 lead into the break.
One play into the third quarter, the score would be 12-0.
On the Tigers’ first play from scrimmage to start the second half, Marquez Chalfant would burst downfield 70 yards all the way to the endzone to expand the Tigers’ lead. The PAT would again fail, but the damage was done as early in the third DeKalb lead 12-0.

Marquez Chalfant proved he could also play defense in Saturday’s game vs. the Owls. He also rushed for 81 yards and a touchdown in the contest.
Smith County would finally get on the board early in the fourth period when the Tigers gave up a long touchdown run to narrow DeKalb’s lead to 12-6. However, DeKalb would answer as big Ryan Thompson would break off a 45 yard touchdown run to put DeKalb’s lead back to 12. This time DeKalb would convert the PAT, as Briz Trapp found a hole and crossed into the endzone to make the score 19-6.
The Tigers would need no more.
DeKalb would give up one more Smith County score late, but would run time out to close out the victory for DeKalb, 19-12.

Tiger quarterback, Briz Trapp was perfect in Saturday’s contest against Smith County. He was 2 of 2 for 29 yards passing and rushed for a PAT completion.
With the win,the Tigers remain perfect, improving to 3-0 for the season. Saturday DeKalb will travel to Jamestown to take on the Pickett County Bulldogs in a rematch of the Tigers’ 8-6 victory on August 24th. Also with the win, DeKalb claims sole possession of first place in the league at the midway point of the season.
