On second thought, the Crossville Peewee Jr. Jets probably wished they had stayed home in the air conditioning instead of traveling to Smithville to face a fired up and determined Peewee Team Saturday.  It truly was a long day for the Jr. Jets, as DeKalb scored early and often and completely stymied the Crossville offense all game long, cruising to victory, 20-0 over the Jr. Jets.

Weston Wright had a monster day for the Tigers Saturday with 140 yards and a touchdown rushing.

Tiger, Weston Wright had a career day, rushing for 140 yards and a touchdown on 9 carries in the contest.  Wright was virtually unstoppable all game long and laid claim to the Tigers’ first score of the game and season on a 65 scoring romp to send the Tigers on their way.  Quarterback Wesley Kent and running back, Drew Dakas also had big days for the Tigers, each adding a touchdown of their own in the contest.  All told, the Tigers put up 211 total yards and three scores in the contest.

Defensive tackle, Kholton Melton led the fierce Tiger defense, leading the team with 3 tackles in the contest and he and the rest of the Black and Gold Defensive line, controlled the line of scrimmage all day long, forcing multiple Jr. Jet fumbles and putting consistent pressure on the Crossville Offense all game.  The Tiger Secondary was just as impressive, completely taking away any passing threat and many times coming up with big tackles.  All combined, the DC

defense allowed no points and ended the day with -12 yards against them.

The game started off ominously for the Tigers though, as the team fumbled its second play from scrimmage, deep in Tiger territory.  As in a sign of things to come, however, the Tiger defense would not allow a Jr. Jet first down and forced the ball over on downs.

Three plays later, Weston Wright would be in the endzone.

After Wright’s 65 yard touchdown scamper, Wesley Kent added the extra point for the Tigers and DC would take a 7-0 lead into the break.

DeKalb’s defense began to wear down the Jr. Jets in the second half and a Luke Midgett fumble recovery put DeKalb’s offense in business at the Crossville’s 32 yard line.

It wouldn’t take long before Kent and the DC offensive attack to take advantage of the gift.

With 3:38 left in the third, Wesley Kent would break free on a 16 yard rumble to put

DeKalb up by two scores.  This time Wright would add the conversion to give the Tigers a 14-0 lead.

Crossville would again turn the ball over on downs and one play later Drew Dakas would make it hurt.

Weaving and slashing his way through the Jr. Jet defense, Dakas would score from 24 yards out to give the Tigers another score, and ultimately, the victory, 20-0.

Offensively, Weston Wright led the Tigers’ offense with 140 yards rushing and a touchdown.  Wesley Kent had 52 yards and a touchdown and Drew Dakas carried the ball 6 times for 29 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Kholton Melton had 3 tackles in the contest while Wesley Kent and Ayden Bean each had 2 tackles.  Luke Midgett added a tackle and a sack while Axel Aranda had one tackle in the contest.

Next week the Tigers will travel to Monterey to face the Wildcats.  Game time is 4pm.
