The DeKalb County Peewee Tigers traveled to Carthage Saturday to play what was effectively the regular season championship game against the Smith County Owls.

Both teams entered the contest with only one loss on the season, with Smith County’s loss coming to DeKalb in week 3 when the Tigers defeated the Owls, 6-0. This time, however, the Owls’ defense stymied the Tigers and flipped the script on DC, winning the game and avenging their loss, 6-0.
Both teams were able to keep their opponent out of the end zone for most of the contest, the one exception being Smith County’s opening possession, where DeKalb allowed the Owls to put together an 11 play, 70 yard touchdown drive.
The DeKalb defense would bend, but never break, for the remainder of the contest, allowing the Owls to rack up 207 total yards and 10 first downs in the contest, but never allowing them to reach the end zone again.
It wouldn’t be enough, though, as DC could get nothing going on offense, going 3 and out on two of their three possessions in the contest. DeKalb’s best hope for a score came on their opening drive of the second half as DeKalb would drive all the

way to the Smith County 29 yard line behind running back Ryan Thompson. An ill timed holding penalty would stall the Tigers drive and DeKalb could never recover.
With the loss, DeKalb enters the postseason this Saturday with two losses and will look to avenge itself in postseason play.
The Peewee Tigers will play at 3:30 this Saturday on the DCHS football field.
