The DeKalb Peewee Tigers lost their opener Saturday at Baxter in, what proved to be, a defensive struggle for most of the game, 6-0 to the Baxter Stingers.

The only score of the day came on the first drive when the Stingers broke free for a 65 yard touchdown run.  Baxter couldn’t convert however and the Tigers suddenly found themselves in a hole, 6-0.

P5After the initial shock, DeKalb’s defense stiffened and the Tiger offense got on track.  Led by a 13 carry, 53 yards rushing performance by Weston Wright, DeKalb was able to mount a couple sustained drives before the Stingers were finally able to turn them away.  The DeKalb Defense racked up 15 tackles in the contest and consistently put pressure on the Stinger’s quarterback, giving up only one first down for the rest of the day.

For the game, Weston Wright had 53 yards rushing, quarterback Wesley Kent had 7 yards on 2 attempts, Seth Fuson had 6 yards and Drew Dakas added 4 yards on the ground.

Defensively, Axel Aranda led the Tigers with 5 tackles, Weston Wright, Drew Dakas, Wesley Kent and Owen Snipes each had 2 and Seth Fuson and Luke Midgett each had 1.

The Tigers will come home this Saturday to play Crossville at 4pm in Smithville.
