A quick strike Stinger offense stunned the Peewee Tigers Saturday early and held on to defeat DeKalb, 19-7 as the team traveled to Baxter looking to build upon a close loss to Livingston a week before.

On the first play from scrimmage, the Stingers broke free on a 70 yard scamper to put the Tigers down quickly  The Stingers converted on the PAT and before DeKalb could catch its breath, it found itself in a 7-0 hole.

Quarterback Jon Travis Hendrix and the Peewee offense were forced to punt on their first possession and had to watch as the Stingers put together an impressive 6 play, 50 yard drive to expand its lead.  Upperman couldn’t covert on its point after though, but took the lead anyway, 13-0.

DeKalb looked to be building momentum on the following drive as Hendrix put together 6 play drive of his own before being stopped on 3rd down and having to punt the ball back to the potent Upperman offense.

They proved dangerous again.

On the very next play, the Stingers rolled 71 yards for their third touchdown to take the lead, and seemingly total control of the game, into halftime, 19-0.

The second half proved to be a defensive struggle as neither team scored until late in the fourth quarter when DeKalb finally got on the board behind a huge 65 yard Nick Murphy touchdown scamper.  Hendrix would convert his point after and suddenly DeKalb looked like it had found offensive life.

The Peewee team has shown improvement each quarter thus far this season and will look to get its first win of the year against Monterey Saturday when the team travels to Cornerstone in Baxter to take on the Wildcats.

Game time is 4:00pm.
