It was a tough day for the Peewee Tigers Saturday when the #4 seeded Tigers took on #1 seeded Upperman in the first round of the Middle Tennessee Youth Football Conference playoffs. DeKalb entered the game as the only team to hold the Stingers to single digits in Upperman’s undefeated run throughout the regular season. It wouldn’t be the case Saturday though as the Stingers scored early and often on DeKalb, winning 25-7.

Luke Midgett had a forced fumble in Saturday’s game against Upperman at Carthage.
Upperman put up 230 total yards against the Tigers and held the hapless Tiger offense to only 97. It wasn’t really a matter of Upperman being able to manhandle the Tigers, instead the Stingers capitalized on big plays and used their speed to reach the endzone.
The Tigers wouldn’t allow a shutout, however, as Luke Midgett would force an Upperman late and big Kholton Melton would recover for DeKalb, setting DeKalb up at the Stingers’ 32 yard and making possible what would prove to be the Tigers’ only score of the game. Quarterback Wesley Kent put together a 9 play drive from that point and Westin Wright would pound the ball into the end zone as time expired to put the Tigers on the board.
For the game, Westin Wright carried the ball 18 times for 60 yards and a touchdown, Aydan Bean ran 5 times for 24 yards, and Drew Dakas ran twice for 4 yards.

Defensively, Luke Midgett led with 5 tackles, 2 sacks and a forced fumble while Axel Aranda had 2 tackles and an interception, Westin Wright had a tackle and Kholton Melton had a fumble recovery.
With the loss, DeKalb will play Smith County in Consolation next Saturday in Carthage at noon. Smith County, who finished second in the regular season, lost to#3 seeded Monterey 12-6 Saturday.
