Backed by a 3 touchdown Tanner Poss performance, on what was originally scheduled to be homecoming, the Saints shot down the Smith County Owls Thursday night, 26-20.

With over 200 of total offense, the Saints settled down after early jitters, and settled in on defense.  Quarterback, Colter Norris was efficient on the night, throwing for 91 yards and a touchdown.  But the real story of the night was the 1-2 punch of Tanner Poss and Tyler Bundy who ran for over 120 yards combined. The duo combined to keep the Owl Defense on its heels all evening.  Poss’s 3 touchdowns were added to by Grayson Redmon, who caught a 14 yard TD bomb from Norris early in the second quarter to put the Saints up,6-0.

DeKalb would get the ball first to begin the second half.  Five plays later, their lead would increase.

After running the ball effectively, driving all the way down to the 6, Tanner Poss would pound his way in for a touchdown.  Tyler Bundy would convert the 2 point conversion, giving DeKalb a 14-0 advantage.

Smith County would answer though, as the Owls put together a 9 play, 60 yard drive ending

in a Dylan Hackett run from 6 yards out for a touchdown.  Their conversion attempt would fail, but the DeKalb lead was narrowed to 14-6.

The Saints would strike again on their next drive as Bundy and Poss would drive their way

down the field and Poss would run in from 8 yards out to increase the DMS lead to 20-0 with 6:03 left in the fourth.

Again the Owls would answer, however, as Issac Dick would rumble 25 yards for a touchdown to bring the Owls within striking distance, 20-12 with 3:41 left.

Norris would complete a huge 47 yard pass completion to Joshua Carlton during the Saints next possession and two plays later Tanner Poss would run in from 5 yards out to put the nail in for the Saints, increasing their lead 26-12.

Smith County would manage another Fabian Torres touchdown, but it would be too little too late for the Owls, as they would head back to Carthage in defeat 26-20.

Due to soggy field conditions, the Saints rescheduled their homecoming for Thursday, September 25th when DeKalb will take on Gordonsville.
